As part of the Broadband Rollout, NDC (Telstra's fabrication arm) were charged with laying fibre optic cable from Brisbane to Melbourne, via Sydney. Transfield Services, as the bridge maintenance contractor for the RTA, needed to attach pipe supports to the underside of existing steel structures without drilling or welding.
Lindapter therefore designed suitable connections to fit with the brief:
- On-Site adjustability - allowing for on-site variances.
- Quick deliveries - to meet with project deadlines, road closures and avoid penalty clauses.
- No drilling/welding allowed – so the strength of the existing steelwork wasn't compromised.
- No damage to protective coating - Longer life before the onset of corrosion, resulting in lower future maintenance costs.
The Lindapter designs were forwarded to NDC, RTA and Transfield Services for acceptance. Our proposal had a pre-drilled 4-hole location plate connected to the existing structure using bolts that went through the plate and the Lindapter fixings. The centres in the plate were drilled to suit the centres of the saddle guide that was located onto two of the bolts before the nuts were tightened.
